MEDICA/COMPAMED 2023 – The Highlights from A. u. K. Müller

Once again this year, A. u. K. Müller presented new products from the world of fluid technology for the medical industry. These were the highlights...

Welcome to the fascinating world of valves. Under this motto, A. u. K. Müller attracted numerous trade visitors to the COMPAMED 2023 trade fair stand in Hall 8b P19. With 83,000 trade visitors, MEDICA and COMPAMED are an international highlight for the healthcare industry. With its innovative fluid solutions for medical technology, A. u. K. Müller is of course not to be missed - especially as the trade fair is taking place in Düsseldorf.

The Essentials in brief:

  • 20 % smaller, 50 % lighter, 100 % German-made quality without compromise: New generation of A. u. K. Müller dialysis valves
  • New service-friendly gear pumps are very popular
  • New generation of series 18 direct-operated valves impress with ease of maintenance, media separation and variety of connections
  • KTW-BWGL: UBA conformity hygiene - A. u. K. Müller servo valves and sanitary valves are a pioneer with this certificate - even for hot water applications.

Valves for Dialysis

We travelled the 20 km to the Düsseldorf trade fair with many new products in our luggage. First and foremost, the latest generation of our A. u. K. Müller 92 series dialysis valves.

This is by no means a new development in the first generation. A. u. K. Müller has been developing valves for haemodialysis since the 1970s. The latest generation of the successful valve series made of biocompatible high-performance polymer is not only 20% smaller. The new coil has internal metal components for improved hygiene within the device and offers a greater variety of voltages. Thanks to media separation, this valve has minimal dead space and is ideally suited for controlling dialysate.

Gear Pumps for Medical Technology

For the first time, A. u. K. Müller presented a gear pump for medical applications at COMPAMED 2023. Following the great success of the impeller pumps, A. u. K. Müller is now entering the sector of higher pressure ranges up to 6 bar. The new concept offers the greatest possible variety and optimised, tool-free maintenance features, which are essential for medical products. The new concept is also easy on the budget and the environment. A large number of motors and pump heads ensure an almost unlimited variety of combinations and connections. Pressure ranges up to 4 bar are currently planned. Further, higher pressures up to 10 bar are being planned.

For the first time, the elements of the pump head that come into contact with the medium are made entirely from high-performance polymers. This means that non-ferrous metals are increasingly becoming a thing of the past.

You can find more advantages in our video:

Direct-operated Valves up to 16 bar

The series 18 of direct-operated valves are entering the next generation. Even much more than this. Ease of maintenance is particularly important in the medical device industry. The new maintenance-friendly valve series more than fulfils this requirement.

A bayonet lock and a 45° anti-clockwise rotation of the solenoid coil allow the coil and valve body to be separated from each other, making it easy to maintain and clean the core, spring, seal and valve body without tools. This not only significantly extends the product life cycle. It also reduces the CO2 footprint and ensures better hygiene within the vending machine.

As a special highlight, the series 18 valves are also available in a media-separated version and as an angled version. This means: more media variety, more connection options, up to 20% higher flow rate.

KTW-BWGL – UBA Certificate Hygiene

Just in time for the start of the COMPAMED trade show: We achieved the new UBA hygiene conformity for our sanitary and servo valves - even for hot water applications up to 85 °C. This makes us one of the first manufacturers with the certificate, as required by the KTW-BWGL. But that's not all: we have gone through the certification process according to the 1+ procedure (System 1+) in order to significantly simplify the certification process for our customers.

The KTW-BWGL is the new assessment basis for plastics and other organic materials that come into contact with drinking water. It was published by the Umweltbundesamt in 2019 and came into force on 21 March 2021. The KTW-BWGL thus replaces the previously non-binding KTW guidelines.

Conclusion on COMPAMED 2023

Everything at COMPAMED 2023 was focused on hygiene and ease of maintenance, and A. u. K. Müller also presented many innovations in this context this year. The miniaturisation of the dialysis valve will offer developers of future generations of dialysis machines new opportunities to make the lives of staff and patients a little more comfortable. In this respect, feedback at this point is of particular importance to us and one of the main reasons for participating.
